BACKGROUND: The endoscopic modified medial maxillectomy (MMM) and prelacrimal approach (PLA) are two routinely performed endoscopic approaches to the maxillary sinus when access via a middle meatal antrostomy is insufficient. However, there is no data in the literature that has compared outcomes and complication profile between the two procedures to determine which approach is superior. OBJECTIVE: To compare the approach related morbidity of PLA and MMM. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of all consecutive adult patients undergoing either MMM or PLA from 2009 to 2023 were identified. The primary outcome was development of epistaxis, paraesthesia, lacrimal injury, iatrogenic sinus dysfunction within a minimum of 3 months post-operative follow up. RESULTS: 39 patients (44 sides) underwent PLA and 96 (96 sides) underwent MMM. There were no statistically significant differences between the rates of paraesthesia (9.1 % vs 14.6 %, p = 0.367) or prolonged paraesthesia (2.3 % vs 5.2 %, p = 0.426), iatrogenic maxillary sinus dysfunction (2.3 % vs 5.2 %, p = 0.426) or adhesions requiring removal (4.5 % vs 4.2 %, p = 0.918). No cases of epiphora or nasal cavity stenosis occurred in either arm in our study. CONCLUSIONS: According to our data, the endoscopic modified medial maxillectomy and prelacrimal approach are both equally safe approaches with their own benefits to access.

BACKGROUND: Our study investigated the role of FAM53B in regulating macrophage M2 polarization and its potential mechanisms in promoting pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) metastasis. AIM: To further investigate the role of FAM53B in regulating macrophage M2 polarization and its potential mechanism in promoting PDAC metastasis. Our goal is to determine how FAM53B affects macrophage M2 polarization and to define its underlying mechanism in PDAC metastasis. METHODS: Cell culture and various experiments, including protein analysis, immunohistochemistry, and animal model experiments, were conducted. We compared FAM53B expression between PDAC tissues and healthy tissues and assessed the correlation of FAM53B expression with clinical features. Our study analyzed the role of FAM53B in macrophage M2 polarization in vitro by examining the expression of relevant markers. Finally, we used a murine model to study the role of FAM53B in PDAC metastasis and analyzed the potential underlying mechanisms. RESULTS: Our research showed that there was a significant increase in FAM53B levels in PDAC tissues, which was linked to adverse tumor features. Experimental findings indicated that FAM53B can enhance macrophage M2 polarization, leading to increased anti-inflammatory factor release. The results from the mouse model further supported the role of FAM53B in PDAC metastasis, as blocking FAM53B prevented tumor cell invasion and metastasis. CONCLUSION: FAM53B promotes PDAC metastasis by regulating macrophage M2 polarization. This discovery could lead to the development of new strategies for treating PDAC. For example, interfering with the FAM53B signaling pathway may prevent cancer spread. Our research findings also provide important information for expanding our understanding of PDAC pathogenesis.

Objective: To explore the efficacy and safety of medical thoracoscopic bulla volume reduction for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) combined with giant emphysematous bullae (GEB). Methods: A total of 66 patients with COPD combined with GEB were enrolled in the study. All the subjects received treatment at Zhengzhou Central Hospital affiliated with Zhengzhou University between March 2021 and December 2022. The subjects were divided into two groups, a medical thoracoscope group consisting of 30 cases treated with medical thoracoscopic bulla volume reduction and a surgical thoracoscope group consisting of 36 cases treated by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. All patients were followed up before discharge and 3 months and 6 months after discharge. The preoperative and postoperative levels of the pulmonary function, 6-minute walk distance (6MWD), and St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) scores and differences in postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. The operative duration, postoperative length-of-stay, and surgical costs and hospitalization bills, and the maximum visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores at 24 h after the procedure were assessed. Results: The baseline data of the two groups were comparable, showing no statistically significant difference. The forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) 6 months after the procedures improved in both the medical thoracoscopy group ([0.78±0.29] L vs. [1.02±0.31] L, P<0.001) and the surgical thoracoscopy group ([0.80±0.21] L vs. [1.03±0.23] L, P<0.001) compared to that before the procedures. Improvements to a certain degree in 6MWT and SGRQ scores were also observed in the two groups at 3 months and 6 months after the procedures (P<0.05). In addition, no statistically significant difference in these indexes was observed during the follow-up period of the patients in the two groups. There was no significant difference in operating time between the two groups. The medical thoracoscopy group had shorter postoperative length-of-stay ([7.3±2.6] d) and 24-hour postoperative VAS pain scores (3.0 [2.0, 3.3]) than the surgical thoracoscopic group did ([10.4±4.3] d and 4.5 [3.0, 5.0], respectively), with the differences being statistically significant (P<0.05). Surgical cost and total hospitalization bills were lower in the medical thoracoscopy group than those in the surgical thoracoscopy group (P<0.05). The complication rate in the medical thoracoscopy group was lower than that in the surgical thoracoscopy group (46.7% vs. 52.8%), but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Medical thoracoscopic reduction of bulla volume can significantly improve the pulmonary function, quality of life, and exercise tolerance of patients with COPD combined with GEB, and it can reduce postoperative short-term pain and shorten postoperative length-of-stay. The procedure has the advantages of minimal invasiveness, quick recovery, and low costs. Hence extensive clinical application is warranted.

Cat scratch disease (CSD) is caused by Bartonella henselae (B. henselae) and presents as lymphadenopathy following close contact with cats. However, in context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, clinical manifestations of CSD may vary, posing new challenges for healthcare professionals. Here we describe a case of a 54-year-old male with painful left upper arm mass, which gradually resolved until he was infected with COVID-19. The mass then rapidly progressed before admission. Meanwhile, pulmonary symptoms including pleural effusion emerged simultaneously. The cause was undetermined with routine blood culture and pathological test until the next generation sequencing (NGS) confirmed the presence of B. henselae. We believe this case is the first to report localized aggravation of CSD after COVID-19 infection and hopefully, offers treatment experience for clinicians worldwide.

The recent dominance of Adelphocoris suturalis Jakovlev as the primary cotton field pest in Bt-cotton-cultivated areas has generated significant interest in cotton pest control research. This study addresses the limited understanding of cotton defense mechanisms triggered by A. suturalis feeding. Utilizing LC-QTOF-MS, we analyzed cotton metabolomic changes induced by A. suturalis, and identified 496 differential positive ions (374 upregulated, 122 downregulated) across 11 categories, such as terpenoids, alkaloids, phenylpropanoids, flavonoids, isoflavones, etc. Subsequent iTRAQ-LC-MS/MS analysis of the cotton proteome revealed 1569 differential proteins enriched in 35 metabolic pathways. Integrated metabolome and proteome analysis highlighted significant upregulation of 17 (89%) proteases in the α-linolenic acid (ALA) metabolism pathway, concomitant with a significant increase in 14 (88%) associated metabolites. Conversely, 19 (73%) proteases in the fructose and mannose biosynthesis pathway were downregulated, with 7 (27%) upregulated proteases corresponding to the downregulation of 8 pathway-associated metabolites. Expression analysis of key regulators in the ALA pathway, including allene oxidase synthase (AOS), phospholipase A (PLA), allene oxidative cyclase (AOC), and 12-oxophytodienoate reductase3 (OPR3), demonstrated significant responses to A. suturalis feeding. Finally, this study pioneers the exploration of molecular mechanisms in the plant-insect relationship, thereby offering insights into potential novel control strategies against this cotton pest.

The incidence of invasive fungal diseases (IFDs) is on the rise globally, particularly among immunocompromised patients, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Current clinical antifungal agents, such as polyenes, azoles, and echinocandins, face increasing resistance from pathogenic fungi. Therefore, there is a pressing need for the development of novel antifungal drugs. Marine-derived secondary metabolites represent valuable resources that are characterized by varied chemical structures and pharmacological activities. While numerous compounds exhibiting promising antifungal activity have been identified, a comprehensive review elucidating their specific underlying mechanisms remains lacking. In this review, we have compiled a summary of antifungal compounds derived from marine organisms, highlighting their diverse mechanisms of action targeting various fungal cellular components, including the cell wall, cell membrane, mitochondria, chromosomes, drug efflux pumps, and several biological processes, including vesicular trafficking and the growth of hyphae and biofilms. This review is helpful for the subsequent development of antifungal drugs due to its summary of the antifungal mechanisms of secondary metabolites from marine organisms.

Solution-based methods for fabricating all-inorganic perovskite film arrays often suffer from limited control over nucleation and crystallization, resulting in poor homogeneity and coverage. To improve film quality, advanced vapor deposition techniques are employed for continuous film. Here, the vapor deposition strategy to the all-inorganic perovskite films array, enabling area-selective deposition of perovskite through substrate modulation is expanded. It can yield a high-quality perovskite film array with different pixel shapes, various perovskite compositions, and a high resolution of 423 dpi. The resulting photodetector arrays exhibit remarkable optoelectronic performance with an on/off ratio of 13 887 and responsivity of 47.5 A W-1. The device also displays long-term stability in a damp condition for up to 12 h. Moreover, a pulse monitoring sensor based on the perovskite films array demonstrates stable monitoring for pulse signals after being worn for 12 h and with a low illumination of 0.055 mW cm-2, highlighting the potential application in wearable optoelectronic devices.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the sixth most common malignancy worldwide. Smoking, drinking, and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection are the main risk factors. Early-stage patients can benefit from radical surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, but the prognosis of locally advanced, recurrent, or metastatic patients is poor. Programmed cell death receptor 1 (PD-1) inhibitor significantly prolongs the survival of these patients, but only about 20 % of the population can benefit significantly. Exploring effective predictive indicators of immunotherapy efficacy and new therapeutic targets is necessary. Tertiary lymphoid structure (TLS) is an ectopic lymphoid organ formed in non-lymphoid tissues, which usually occurs in chronic inflammation including autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, and tumors. The structure and function of TLS are similar to those of secondary lymphoid organs. The existence of TLS is closely related to the favorable prognosis and immune response of patients. This article will review the formation, prognosis, and predictive value of TLS as well as inducing TLS neogenesis in HNSCC.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Emerging evidence has raised an obesity paradox in observational studies of body mass index (BMI) and health among the oldest-old (aged ≥80 years), as an inverse relationship of BMI with mortality was reported. This study was to investigate the causal associations of BMI, waist circumference (WC), or both with mortality in the oldest-old people in China. METHODS: A total of 5306 community-based oldest-old (mean age 90.6 years) were enrolled in the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) between 1998 and 2018. Genetic risk scores were constructed from 58 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with BMI and 49 SNPs associated with WC to subsequently derive causal estimates for Mendelian randomization (MR) models. One-sample linear MR along with non-linear MR analyses were performed to explore the associations of genetically predicted BMI, WC, and their joint effect with all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, and non-CVD mortality. RESULTS: During 24 337 person-years of follow-up, 3766 deaths were documented. In observational analyses, higher BMI and WC were both associated with decreased mortality risk [hazard ratio (HR) 0.963, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.955-0.971 for a 1-kg/m2 increment of BMI and HR 0.971 (95% CI 0.950-0.993) for each 5 cm increase of WC]. Linear MR models indicated that each 1 kg/m2 increase in genetically predicted BMI was monotonically associated with a 4.5% decrease in all-cause mortality risk [HR 0.955 (95% CI 0.928-0.983)]. Non-linear curves showed the lowest mortality risk at the BMI of around 28.0 kg/m2, suggesting that optimal BMI for the oldest-old may be around overweight or mild obesity. Positive monotonic causal associations were observed between WC and all-cause mortality [HR 1.108 (95% CI 1.036-1.185) per 5 cm increase], CVD mortality [HR 1.193 (95% CI 1.064-1.337)], and non-CVD mortality [HR 1.110 (95% CI 1.016-1.212)]. The joint effect analyses indicated that the lowest risk was observed among those with higher BMI and lower WC. CONCLUSIONS: Among the oldest-old, opposite causal associations of BMI and WC with mortality were observed, and a body figure with higher BMI and lower WC could substantially decrease the mortality risk. Guidelines for the weight management should be cautiously designed and implemented among the oldest-old people, considering distinct roles of BMI and WC.

The cost-effective and environment-friendly sulfur-driven autotrophic denitrification (SdAD) process has drawn significant attention for advanced nitrogen removal from low carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio wastewater in recent years. However, achieving efficient nitrogen removal and maintaining system stability of SdAD process in treating low C/N landfill leachate treatment have been a major challenge. In this study, a novel electrochemical-coupled sulfur-driven autotrophic denitrification (ESdAD) system was developed and compared with SdAD system through a long-term continuous study. Superior nitrogen removal performance (removal efficiency of 89.1 ± 2.5 %) was achieved in ESdAD system compared to SdAD process when treating raw landfill leachate (influent total nitrogen (TN) concentration of 241.7 ± 36.3 mg-N/L), and the effluent TN concentration of ESdAD bioreactor was as low as 24.8 ± 5.1 mg-N/L, which meets the discharge standard of China (< 40 mg N/L). Moreover, less sulfate production rate (1.3 ± 0.2 mg SO42--S/mgNOx--N vs 1.7 ± 0.2 mg SO42--S/mgNOx--N) and excellent pH modulation (pH of 6.9 ± 0.2 vs 5.8 ± 0.4) were also achieved in the ESdAD system compared to SdAD system. The improvement of ESdAD system performance was contributed to coexistence and interaction of heterotrophic bacteria (e.g., Rhodanobacter, Thermomonas, etc.), sulfur autotrophic bacteria (e.g., Thiobacillus, Sulfurimonas, Ignavibacterium etc.) and hydrogen autotrophic bacteria (e.g., Thauera, Comamonas, etc.) under current stimulation. In addition, microbial nitrogen metabolic activity, including functional enzyme (e.g., Nar and Nir) activities and electron transfer capacity of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and cytochrome c (Cyt-C), were also enhanced during current stimulation, which facilitated the nitrogen removal and maintained system stability. These findings suggested that ESdAD is an effective and eco-friendly process for advanced nitrogen removal for low C/N wastewater.

Thioredoxin reductase 1 (TrxR1) has emerged as a promising target for cancer therapy. In our previous research, we discovered several new TrxR1 inhibitors and found that they all have excellent anti-tumor activity. At the same time, we found these TrxR1 inhibitors all lead to an increase in AKT phosphorylation in cancer cells, but the detailed role of AKT phosphorylation in TrxR1 inhibitor-mediated cell death remains unclear. In this study, we identified the combination of AKT and TrxR1 inhibitor displayed a strong synergistic effect in colon cancer cells. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the synergistic effect of auranofin (TrxR1 inhibitor) and MK-2206 (AKT inhibitor) was caused by ROS accumulation. Importantly, we found that ATM inhibitor KU-55933 can block the increase of AKT phosphorylation caused by auranofin, and exhibited a synergistic effect with auranofin. Taken together, our study demonstrated that the activation of ATM/AKT pathway is a compensatory mechanism to cope with ROS accumulation induced by TrxR1 inhibitor, and synergistic targeting of TrxR1 and ATM/AKT pathway is a promising strategy for treating colon cancer.

The high-concentration sulfate (SO42-) in the antibiotic production wastewater hinders the anerobic methanogenic process and also proposes possible environmental risk. In this study, a novel single-chamber up-flow anaerobic bioelectrochemical reactor (UBER) was designed to realize simultaneous SO42- removal and elemental sulfur (S0) recovery. With the carbon felt, the cathode was installed underneath and the anode above to meet the different biological niches for sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) and sulfur oxidizing bacteria (SOB). The bio-anode UBER (B-UBER) demonstrated a much higher average SO42- removal rate (SRR) of 113.2 ± 5.7 mg SO42--S L-1 d-1 coupled with a S0 production rate (SPR) of 54.4 ± 5.8 mg S0-S L-1 d-1 at the optimal voltage of 0.8 V than that in the abio-anode UBER (control reactor) (SRR = 86.6 ± 13.4 mg SO42--S L-1 d-1; SPR = 25.5 ± 9.7 mg S0-S L-1 d-1) under long-term operation. A large amount of biogenic S0 (about 72.2 mg g-1 VSS) was recovered in the B-UBER. The bio-anode, dominated by Thiovirga (SOB genus) and Acinetobacter (electrochemically active bacteria genus), exhibited a higher current density, lower overpotential, and lower internal resistance. C-type cytochromes mainly served as the crucial electron transfer mediator for both direct and indirect electron transfer, so that significantly increasing electron transfer capacity and biogenic S0 recovery. The reaction pathways of the sulfur transformation in the B-UBER were hypothesized that SRB utilized acetate as the main electron donor for SO42- reduction in the cathode zone and SOB transferred electrons to the anode or oxygen to produce biogenic S0 in the anode zone. This study proved a new pathway for biogenic S0 recovery and sulfate removal from sulfate-laden antibiotic production wastewater using a well-designed single-chamber bioelectrochemical reactor.

There is a significant overlap in the genetic, metabolic and epigenetic alterations between human and companion animal cancers, including those of the oral cavity, breast, bladder, skin, lungs and pancreas. In many cancer types, the identification and removal of affected lymph nodes are essential for accurate cancer management, including treatment and prognosis. Historically, lymphadenectomy and subsequent radical resection based on regional anatomy, palpation and lymph node aspirates were considered sufficient; however, modern approaches with sentinel lymph node mapping (SLN) mapping have increased the accuracy of surgical decision-making. Preoperative and intraoperative SLN mapping techniques in veterinary patients parallel those used in human medicine. While many of these techniques are highly successful, the main challenges with current methodologies are their sensitivity and specificity for the presence of cancer, which can be overcome via precision medicine and targeted SLN mapping agents. Given the large population of dogs and cats with cancer, the crossover of knowledge between species can help to deepen our understanding of many of these cancers and can be useful in evaluating new drugs and/or therapies. In this review, we discuss SLN mapping techniques in veterinary medicine and the concept of precision medicine as it relates to targeted SLN mapping imaging agents. The large number of companion animals affected by cancer is an underutilized resource to bridge the translational gap and we aim to provide a reference for the use of dogs and cats as a comparative model for human SLN mapping.

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of a blatant activation of age-based stereotype threats (ABST) on time-based prospective memory (TBPM) in older adults. A sample of 74 adults from Hong Kong was randomly assigned to one of the two experimental conditions: the stereotyped condition (n = 36) or the neutral condition (n = 38). Participants were asked to read fictitious news reports related to dementia (stereotyped condition) or the importance of English oral skills (neutral condition). After, all participants performed a TBPM task using the Chinese lexical decision task as an ongoing task block. The results indicate a main effect of ABST on TBPM accuracy. Specifically, older adults under a blatant activation of ABST demonstrated lower TBPM accuracy (p < 0.05, ηp2 = 0.08). Further analyses based on age groups demonstrated that TBPM accuracy was only impaired in older participants (aged 70-80 years) (p < 0.05, ηp2 = 0.19). The study, for the first time, provides evidence that ABST can disrupt TBPM performance in older adults, especially when cues are blatantly activated.

A 58-year-old male patient was admitted to Peking University First Hospital (Beijing, China) due to recurrent hematuria, proteinuria and kidney dysfunction. The patient was positive for proteinase-3 (PR3)-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA). Pathology of the kidney showed focal proliferative necrotizing glomerulonephritis with crescent formation and immune complex-mediated glomerulonephritis. The patient was diagnosed with PR3-ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV), received intensive immunosuppressive therapy and experienced two relapses within 1 year. After admission, aortic valve vegetation was observed via echocardiography. The patient subsequently received antibiotic treatment and valve replacement, and achieved complete remission of kidney and cardiac function. The present case emphasized the importance of identifying secondary reasons for ANCA formation, especially infective endocarditis in patients with PR3-AAV.

Early adverse experiences or exposures have a profound impact on neurophysiological, cognitive, and somatic development. Evidence across disciplines uncovers adversity-induced alternations in cortical structures, cognitive functions, and related behavioral manifestations, as well as an energetic trade-off between the brain and body. Based on the life history (LH) framework, the present research aims to explore the adversity-adapted cognitive-behavioral mechanism and investigate the relation between cognitive functioning and somatic energy reserve (i.e., body mass index; BMI). A structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis was performed with longitudinal self-reported, anthropometric, and task-based data drawn from a cohort of 2,607 8- to 11-year-old youths and their primary caregivers recruited by the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCDSM) study. The results showed that early environmental adversity was positively associated with fast LH behavioral profiles and negatively with cognitive functioning. Moreover, cognitive functioning mediated the relationship between adversity and fast LH behavioral profiles. Additionally, we found that early environmental adversity positively predicted BMI, which was inversely correlated with cognitive functioning. These results revealed an adversity-adapted cognitive-behavioral mechanism and energy-allocation pathways, and add to the existing knowledge of LH trade-off and developmental plasticity.

BACKGROUND: Autoantibodies are a hallmark feature of Connective Tissue Diseases (CTD). Their presence in patients with idiopathic interstitial lung disease (ILD) may suggest covert CTD. We aimed to determine the prevalence of CTD autoantibodies in patients diagnosed with idiopathic ILD. METHODS: 499 patient sera were analysed: 251 idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), 206 idiopathic non-specific interstitial pneumonia (iNSIP) and 42 cryptogenic organising pneumonia (COP). Autoantibody status was determined by immunoprecipitation. RESULTS: 2.4% of IPF sera had a CTD-autoantibody compared to 10.2% of iNSIP and 7.3% of COP. 45% of autoantibodies were anti-synthetases. A novel autoantibody targeting an unknown 56 kDa protein was found in seven IPF patients (2.8%) and two NSIP (1%) patients. This was characterised as anti-annexin A11. CONCLUSION: Specific guidance on autoantibody testing and interpretation in patients with ILD could improve diagnostic accuracy. Further work is required to determine the clinical significance of anti-annexin A11.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) models for medical diagnosis often face challenges of generalizability and fairness. We highlighted the algorithmic unfairness in a large thyroid ultrasound dataset with significant diagnostic performance disparities across subgroups linked causally to sample size imbalances. To address this, we introduced the Quasi-Pareto Improvement (QPI) approach and a deep learning implementation (QP-Net) combining multi-task learning and domain adaptation to improve model performance among disadvantaged subgroups without compromising overall population performance. On the thyroid ultrasound dataset, our method significantly mitigated the area under curve (AUC) disparity for three less-prevalent subgroups by 0.213, 0.112, and 0.173 while maintaining the AUC for dominant subgroups; we also further confirmed the generalizability of our approach on two public datasets: the ISIC2019 skin disease dataset and the CheXpert chest radiograph dataset. Here we show the QPI approach to be widely applicable in promoting AI for equitable healthcare outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Gastric stromal tumors, originating from mesenchymal tissues, are one of the most common tumors of the digestive tract. For stromal tumors originating from the muscularis propria, compared with conventional endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR) can remove deep lesions and digestive tract wall tumors completely. However, this technique has major limitations such as perforation, postoperative bleeding, and post-polypectomy syndrome. Herein, we report a case of postoperative serous surface bleeding which formed an encapsulated hemoperitoneum in a patient with gastric stromal tumor that was treated with exposed EFTR. Feasible treatment options to address this complication are described. CASE SUMMARY: A 47-year-old male patient had a hemispherical protrusion found during gastric endoscopic ultrasonography, located at the upper gastric curvature adjacent to the stomach fundus, with a smooth surface mucosa and poor mobility. The lesion was 19.3 mm × 16.1 mm in size and originated from the fourth ultrasound layer. Computed tomography (CT) revealed no significant evidence of lymph node enlargement or distant metastasis. Using conventional ESD technology for mucosal pre-resection, exposed EFTR was performed to resect the intact tumor in order to achieve a definitive histopathological diagnosis. Based on its morphology and immunohistochemical expression of CD117 and DOG-1, the lesion was proven to be consistent with a gastric stromal tumor. Six days after exposed EFTR, CT showed a large amount of encapsulated fluid and gas accumulation around the stomach. In addition, gastroscopy suggested intracavitary bleeding and abdominal puncture drainage indicated serosal bleeding. Based on these findings, the patient was diagnosed with serosal bleeding resulting in encapsulated abdominal hemorrhage after exposed EFTR for a gastric stromal tumor. The patient received combined treatments, such as hemostasis under gastroscopy, gastrointestinal decompression, and abdominal drainage. All examinations were normal within six months of follow-up. CONCLUSION: This patient developed serous surface bleeding in the gastric cavity following exposed EFTR. Serosal bleeding resulting in an encapsulated hemoperitoneum is rare in clinical practice. The combined treatment may replace certain surgical techniques.
